OUR 2021 INTERNS
Amran Elmi

Amran Elmi
Intern
My name is Amran Elmi. I was born and raised in Ethiopia, but my family are from Somalia. This is my last semester graduating from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health. I am thinking of continuing my studies to become a doctor (Insha’Allah). I hope to become a doctor who truly cares for my future patients and to provide better health care to underserved communities. I am also a co-founder of Muslim Student Association (MSA) Club at San Diego City College. The members and the leaders of MSA were so fortunate to advocate to get a mediation room, where Muslims and non-Muslims utilized to pray. Which was a successful and rewarding journey. As a passionate person I always look forward to changing people’s lives whether it is small differences or large differences, and I think all that should matter is that it changes Someone for the better. Everyone in his/her life has someone who has reached out to them or influenced them in some way, and I believe that it is important for people to continue to reach out to others!
Sierra Kriss

Sierra Kriss
Intern
My name is Sierra Kriss and I was born and raised in San Diego, CA. I lived in Ocean Beach until I was 8 and now I am currently living in Chula Vista. I am a Senior at San Diego State University and will graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Communication and Sustainability. I enjoy spending time at the beach, playing piano, spending time with my family and bike riding. At age of 16 I began working at the South Bay YMCA as a lifeguard. Now, I am the head lifeguard at the Ryan Family YMCA and I give swim lessons to young kids.
During my four years at SDSU I have been able to be part of the non-profit organization Bright Side Produce. I delivered fresh fruit and vegetables to liquor stores in communities that have been identified as food deserts. This opportunity allowed me to see first hand the lack of resources available to citizens experiencing poverty. Fulfilling Destiny has felt like the perfect opportunity to help contribute to those surviving without a home and provide them with the proper resources. I am so excited to be part of such an amazing group of individuals and I can not wait to make San Diego a better place.

Katherine Simon

Katherine Simon
Intern
My name is Katherine Simon and I’ll be serving as a Community Outreach intern this spring for Fulfilling Destiny. I’m 16 years old and a current junior at Mt. Carmel High School, here in San Diego. I was eager when learning about Fulfilling Destiny because of its goals in aiding those experiencing period poverty in communities all around us. I’m so happy to join this team because I want to be a part of this initiative that helps those find dignity within themselves and provide healthy access to period necessities. I plan on majoring in Political Science – if/when I get into college – specifically, following the law path. I have an interest in politics, this year, especially, I became more involved with policy initiatives by joining March For Our Lives San Diego and became a fellow for Civics Unplugged – a youth-led initiative to promote civic engagement and improve American democracy for the future. I’m president of my school’s speech and debate club and play an active role in my school’s community. I was born and raised in the south bay area of San Diego, and as of right now reside in the northern region of SD. I love acting and all things theatre-related, watching movies, and creating Spotify playlists. I’m passionate about volunteering, women’s rights, and racial equality. I hope you all got to know me a bit better!
