Fulfilling Destiny in partnership with SDSU Health Communication and Community Based Service Learning first annual Run/Walk for Dignity 5K.
We cannot express our gratitude enough for the success of yesterday’s Run for Dignity! At the beginning of the fall semester, Dr. Record and her class of 14 starting the project of Run for Dignity for their Comm 421 course, Health Communication and Community Based Service Learning. From here, the students planned every detail for the event from the design of the flyers, the sponsored raffle prizes, to the volunteer assignments. On the day of the event, the San Diego State University Communication Department came out to support with their faculty, staff, and families. We had local nonprofit organizations, such as San Diego Youth Services, Could You?, Clairemont Coalition on Homelessness, and Open Heart Leaders, come out to table to share their amazing resources and work they are doing in the community.
Bold Brew Coffee and California Coast Credit Union also tabled with their great products and services. After sounding off the runners and walkers for their 5k race, Eya was interviewed by KCR College Radio to talk about the importance of addressing the basic of needs of women facing homelessness. At the end of the day, we had 117 registered participants who helped collect over 190 boxes of feminine hygiene products and raised over $3000. This was our first time as an organization hosting an event of this size but all the love and support we received from the San Diego community has made it all worth it. Thank you again for helping us empower homeless women so they can have their #periodwithdignity.
